After Suryakumar Yadav‘s incredible performance against Sri Lanka in the decider T20I on Saturday, Gautam Gambhir lavished praise on him. He said, he felt it was time to give the 32-year-old an opportunity to play Test cricket. “Time to put him in Test cricket” regarding the Indian batter, Gautam Gambhir makes a bold statement.
In the series-deciding match, Suryakumar Yadav scored his third T20I hundred against Sri Lanka. He helped India win the series against Sri Lanka in Rajkot by smashing an unbeaten 112 runs off just 51 balls. In his incredible innings, he hit a total of seven fours and nine sixes.
Not only Gautam Gambhir but also many cricket characteristics recommend him for the Indian Test team after his outstanding performance yesterday. He already scored three centuries in the shortest format of cricket in his small career.
Former team India coach Ravi Shastri was leading the way. He endorsed Surya Kumar to be a part of the red ball cricket for Team India. “I think he is a three-format player. I know they do not talk about him in Test cricket, but he is a three-format player. This guy can play Test cricket and I’ll tell you what, he can surprise a few. Send him there at number 5 and let him stir it up.” said Shastri.
Now, Gambhir has also joined in and felt it was the right time for Yadav to make his debut in the longest format of the game for India. The former opener took to social media to praise the 32-year-old’s performance against Sri Lanka and declare that it was time to try him out in Test cricket.
Gautam Gambhir posted an Instagram post with the image of Surya Kumar Yadav and captioned it “What a knock @surya_14kumar. Time to put him in test cricket!”
After the T20 series against Srilanka in the press conference Hardik Pandya said Suryakumar Yadav will continue to be an extremely important player for India in all formats, including Test cricket.
“Going ahead, he is very important for all the formats and I feel in a red ball as well. He has the game to kind of change the momentum and the situation if he comes in. I’m sure that the selectors and the captain are looking at him as well.” said Pandya.
