Virat Kohli slammed the first century by an Indian in the ODI format in the new year of 2023. He smashed his 45th ODI ton on Tuesday. Virat Kohli registered his 73rd century in the first ODI against Sri Lanka in the Guwahati Stadium.
He reached his 45th ODI ton in just 80 deliveries. His total contribution in this match was 113 runs in 87 balls. To score this run he hammered 12 boundaries and an over-the-boundary in his significant innings. This inning of Virat Kohli helped India to set a huge score of 373 runs in the first ODI match against the visitor.
At the start of the Indian innings, two openers of India Captain Rohit Sharma and young Shubman Gill put a good total of 143 run opening partnership on the scoreboard. Both of the openers got their half-century but Rohit missed his ton by just 17 runs. He got out on his personal 83 runs. After the fall of the first wicket, Virat Kohli came into the crease and just continued the momentum. On the opposite end Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Axar Patel did the good company of Virat and kept the flow of the scoreboard.
Virat’s last ODI century was just a few days before in the last ODI series of 2022 against Bangladesh. Even that was the last ODI match Played by the Indian side. After that match, it was the first ODI match played by Team India. So this century is the back-to-back ODI century by Virat Kohli.
This 73rd century of Virat Kohli is his 45th ODI century. Now he has the second most ODI century in world cricket. Only Sachin Tendulkar is ahead of him in the number of ODI centuries. Master Blaster has 49 ODI centuries. Virat is now just 4 centuries behind to get the most ODI centuries record. India played a lot of ODI series in the year 2023. Also, ODI World Cup will also be played this year. So there is a huge opportunity ahead of Virat Kohli to reach this record.
