The Indian Premier League auction (IPL 2023 Auction) was held in Kochi yesterday. After Yesterday’s bidding game, we have witnessed numerous records being broken and several new records being created. A drastic change was made in the top 5 most expensive players in the IPL auction history as franchise owners spent millions of dollars without hesitation to meet the demands and needs of their teams. International players, and especially all-rounders, laughed their way to the bank.

Punjab Kings outbid five other clubs to get Sam Curran for INR 18.50 crore. This was shattering Chris Morris‘s previous record (INR 16.25 crore), becoming him the most expensive player ever purchased in an IPL auction (USD 2.25 million approximately). It was a great time to be an English man as two of the players are English in the top 3 most expensive players list. England’s young Harry Brook also grabbed a big deal (13.25cr.) with SRH in his first appearance in IPL.

Sam Curran (IPL 2023)

Sam Curran, an all-rounder for England, received a stunning Rs 18.5 crore bid from Punjab Kings. That makes him the most expensive player ever in IPL auction history. There was a competitive three-way bidding war involving the Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Punjab. Curran returned to Punjab for an astounding sum. Curran, the 2022 T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament, previously played for Punjab in 2019.

Cameron Green (IPL 2023)

Cameron Green, a 23-year-old young talent, joins the IPL’s list of the most expensive players ever. Mumbai Indians selected the Australian all-rounder in 2023. Mumbai Indians bought Cameron Green for Rs. 17.50 crores, making him the second most expensive foreign player in the IPL’s history.

Ben Stokes (IPL 2023)

After a heated bidding war with Lucknow Super Giants, Ben Stokes‘ IPL shirt turned yellow. Chennai Super Kings acquired the England Test skipper for Rs 16.25 crore. The third-highest purchase of the day was Chennai’s Stokes, making up for the loss of Sam Curran.

Chris Morris (IPL 2023)

In IPL 2021, South African allrounder Chris Morris was sold to Rajasthan Royals for 16.25 crores. Additionally, he was the most expensive 2021 IPL player and was the most expensive player in the IPL auction history till the 2023 IPL auction. Now Morris is the joint third most expensive player in the IPL auction history.

Nicholas Pooran (IPL 2023)

Nicholas Pooran became the most expensive West Indian sold at an IPL auction. The new franchise Lucknow Super Giants spent INR 16 crore (USD 2 million approx.) to buy him. The fight for Pooran appeared to be between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals for a while. But Super Giants came in with a bid that was close to a million dollars. It became a two-team race between the Capitals and them.
