There have been a few surprise results in each of the first six World Cups. But there has never been a World Cup like this one, where surprises have almost come to be anticipated. The T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia might have been the best edition of the most prestigious sporting event in the shortest format if it hadn’t been for the rain. It produced many exciting matches, exciting final-ball outcomes, and heart-stopping moments! There have been five significant upsets so far in the Down Under tournament, which is another sign that smaller teams are trying harder to beat the top ones. Here take a look at Top Upsets in T20 World Cup 2022.
The first upset of the T20 World Cup 2022 occurred in the opening match of the qualifying round between former champion Srilanka and Namibia. Namibia defeated Sri Lanka by 55 runs. Jan Frylinck’s blistering down the order contributed to Namibia’s competitive 163/7 score. In response, the Lankan tigers were bowled out for just 108 runs by the Namibian bowlers, led by David Wiese. He took two wickets for only sixteen runs. The first round was very interesting because of this result.
West Indies, the two-time World Champions, are defeated by Scotland! George Munsey’s unbeaten 66 helped the Scots to score 160/5. Coming to chase down the target the Windies were bowled out for 118. From the Scotland team, Mark Watt (3/12) and Michael Leask (2/15) led the charge.
West Indies was once again defeated by Ireland and this time they were knocked out of the T20 world cup. West Indies Scored 146/5 in their 20 overs. Ireland chased that run in just 17.3 overs. They won the match by 9 wickets and knocked West Indies out of the tournament. And Ireland got the spot on the super 12.

Ireland, the competition’s giant killers, defeated tournament hot favourites and nearby neighbours England in the Super 12 round! However, they did benefit from the weather this time as they prevailed by 5 runs win against England in the DLS method, but a win is a win! Skipper Balbirine’s 62 runs helped his team to put a decent total of 157 on the scoreboard. Irish bowlers did the rest of the work as they kept it tight while bowling. Josh Little took two wickets. That was a significant win for Ireland.
In the bouncy Perth pitch, Pak bowlers skittle out Zimbabwe for 130/8. But in the following a valiant bowling effort, led by Sikandar Raza (3/25), and outstanding fielding Zimbabwe hand out a nail bitting 1-run defeat to Pakistan on the last ball of the match.
